• Geographical Indication Poverty Alleviation Western China Promotion in Sichuan

  •   Recently, Trademark Office of CNIPA organized its third round promotion on “Geographical Indication Poverty Alleviation” in Chengdu of Sichuan after the previous promotions in Guangxi and Xinjiang. Relevant responsible individuals from Sichuan Poverty Alleviation and Immigration Bureau, from 21 municipal level AIC and AMR departments, and delegates from Geographical Indication rights holders and relevant departments, with responsible staffs from 88 poverty counties, altogether 3028 individuals participated in the first day video promotion in main and sub venues.

      In the opening ceremony, the State Council Leading Group Office of Poverty Alleviation and Development sent special delegates to introduce national policies there. Staff in charge of Trademark Office of CNIPA indicated that GI trademark means significant to promote green development, to enlarge local featured economy and to implement accurate poverty alleviation. By far, only 2.1 GI marks registered in every ten thousand square kilometers in Western China, which is much lower than that in Eastern (18.5 marks) and Middle (6.2 marks) China. He hoped to comprehensively activate GI marks’ functions in Sichuan to promote economic structural adjustment and development mode transformation, to help advantageous featured industry development there and to output more excellent local specialties for market in each provinces and overseas countries, to aid poverty alleviation and to summarize experience to exhibit referential examples for western provinces.

      This promotion lasted for 5 days, invited local government representatives from excellent GI places, AICs and AMRs representatives, GI mark experts, GI mark registrants, and market sales representatives to exchange practices. This promotion would go further into Bazhong, Guangyuan, Deyang and Mianzhu for investigation and conduct one to one help, raise suggestions on Sichuan GI mark products development and brand promotion and to take targeted instructions.
